To create art that is brave and generous, is to create art that does not numb us to past and present systems of harm. It is to give us the privilege of hope and possibility amidst pain and fear. Art plays an important role in taking us beyond overwhelm, apathy, and helplessness. When we create and experience art that reflects us, our lives, and our worries back to us while also showing us how to hold one another with loving tenderness, we’re reminded of our agency and power in community. I see storytelling as a pathway towards liveable futures.
