Assumptions

azizam,

Maybe we stop trying to figure people out,
restricting them to what we think we know,
and instead meet them where they are and listen.

I don’t need to figure you out,
if I choose to hold space with you, for you, then
my job is to stay open,
to it all.

Our need to know,
categorize,
box,
comes from our need for safety,
and fear of the unknown.

But if we are safe,
sovereign,
then we don’t have to be obsessed with controlling
eachother.

Release.
Be.

If I choose to have you around,
then I choose to trust.

Maybe we stop assuming so much,
thinking we know,
without listening to hear.

Fuck what you’ve been told,
what you think is true.

Staying open
when scared,
when sad,
when overwhelmed,
when anxious,
when confused,
when grieving,
that is the act of love.

xo,
